Free Summer Events – Downtown Grand Rapids

After a long, cold winter, summer has OFFICIALLY hit Grand Rapids.  That means it’s time to get out of hibernation, throw on some flip-flops, and head downtown to explore what this city has to offer.  There are SO many fun activities for you to enjoy!  Here is a list of a few events: 

 

Festival of the Arts

June 1-3, Calder Plaza

Festival of the Arts is a three-day festival that features several stages for performances, creative activities for kids, as well as art booths to help support local artists.  This is a FREE & FUN event for anyone to enjoy! 

 

Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Festival

June 9: 11AM – 10PM, Rosa Parks Circle                                            

The 2nd Annual Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Festival will showcase the rich, Asian culture through dance demonstrations, martial arts demonstrations, traditional performances, a fashion show and more! There will be an appearance by three champion SUMO wrestlers followed by a Luau. This event is FREE and open to everyone! 

 

 

Grand Rapids Hispanic Festival

August 10-12, Calder Plaza

Celebrate the vibrant Latin culture at the Grand Rapids Hispanic Festival! The festival will feature musicians, dancers, singers, and an outdoor market. Jewelry, clothing, accessories and art will be for sale. This event is FREE and open to the public. 

 

Grand Rapids Polish Festival

August 24-26, Rosa Parks Circle

Head to the longest continuous festival in Grand Rapids. Enjoy Polish culture, entertainment, and vendors. Learn how to Polka with your friends and family at this three-day festival, FREE of charge! 

 

Movies on Monroe

Every other Friday, June-August

555 Monroe Ave NW

Every other Friday, the city hosts a movie showing throughout the whole summer!  What used to be the old “Movies in the Park” is now at a new location, and under the new name – “Movies on Monroe.” There are two screenings, one at 7:30pm (for younger audiences) and one immediately following (for more mature audiences). Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets, towels, food, and beverages.

It will feature Wood-FIred Pizzas in addition to the award-winning Uccello's favorites. These summer festivities are the perfect opportunity to grab a bite for Take-Out!
